The votes are in and we can’t say we were surprised with the results.

This week the British-based travel book company, Rough Guide, polled their audience on what they considered to be the most beautiful country in the world. This global beauty pageant toted many eligible candidates, but there was only room for one at the top. Readers from around the world joined in, offering their opinions on which nation deserved the slot.

Early this week, Rough Guide released their results. The world’s number one country wasn’t New Zealand, Switzerland, or Italy, but Scotland.

Perhaps an unsuspecting contender at first glance, Scotland is a small but extraordinary land. Nestled amidst the British Isles, Scotland has much more to offer than its traditional kilts and mysterious tales of the infamous Loch Ness Monster. No matter your travel preferences, there is a little something for everyone here.

For the fairytale fanatics, Scotland is a land of over two thousand castles. There is no shortage of whimsical magic here. Visit to see sights such as the Kilchurn, Stirling, and Edinburgh Castles. Hundreds of years of history compose these architectural masterpieces.

If you prefer the great outdoors, you’re in luck. A hike around any one of Scotland’s beautiful Lochs will satisfy the most enthusiastic outdoorsman. In addition to these numerous bodies of water, Scotland is home to Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles at 4,413 feet.

Stop by Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland, to get your fix of its eclectic, cultural art and sip on some Scottish Breakfast tea like a local. Here you will find marvels such as the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and the historic Glasgow Netropolis.
