Airbnb recently announced their expansion of services to include the hotel industry. Once a direct competitor Airbnb seeks to bridge the gap between hotels and private renters by offering select boutique hotel options.
It doesn’t stop here; Airbnb is truly taking flight these days.
Seemingly Airbnb has their hand in many pots these days. Rumor has it that the company is considering launching their own airlines. Recent articles have dropped hints that the billion-dollar corporation is looking to expand far beyond the home sharing world. Different news outlets inquired about the validity of these rumors with Airbnb co-founder Brian Chesky. Reportedly, Chesky told The Sunday Times, “We’ve seriously considered a lot of things around aviation and we’ve spent a lot of time exploring different concepts. We definitely want to make sure, though, that we can get into the end-to-end trip business.”
Whether it’s where you stay or how you’re going to get there, Airbnb wants to help. The company is preparing to ensure that they are the one stop shop for all your travel needs, apparently even if it requires launching their own airline.
Such an endeavor is certainly a long-term goal, however. If Airbnb launched its own airline, of course, it could be years before anything hit the runway. With this company’s innovative, futuristic thinking, we wouldn’t put it past them to make this vision become reality.
