For those planning to be downtown, make sure you take advantage of the public transportation system. All of the MBTA services will be free during New Year's Eve and during the early hours of 2019. These free services begin at 8 p.m on Monday evening, just as the New Year's celebrations start in Boston. The service will continue through 2 a.m. Tuesday morning and then resume a regular schedule later that day. Additionally, MassDOT is also serving free coffee at highway service plazas from 10 p.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Tuesday.
