New year, new travel destination.
As the new year fast approaches, many of us are checking our bucket lists for potential trip ideas. With the added effect of colder weather in many parts of the world, the warm destinations seem all the more appealing currently. This week, National Geographic rolled out their top travel picks for 2018, and they did not let us down. Among the favorite destinations were the iconic cities of Vienna, Dublin, and Sydney. The Jordan Trail and the exotic island of Madagascar also graced the list. One prime spot fell to Oahu, Hawaii, and we can certainly see why.

Nearby the lively capital city of Honolulu, Oahu offers a more rural side of the island. If surfing is your game, you’ll love it here. North Shore Oahu is world renowned for being a regular surf mecca. While you’re here, be sure to rent a board and try your hand at these pristine waves. Waimea Bay is an ideal surfing spot, and a historic part of Hawaii’s surf culture.
Haleiwa Town offers the iconic chill nature of Hawaiian culture for travelers. On this more secluded part of the island, Haleiwa is about as populated as you can get. Walk around this quaint surf town and be immersed in the variety of activities. Stop by Matsumoto’s for a delicious shave ice, a local treat that Oahu is known for.
If you prefer to stay on the shore, then venture out to Diamond Head, a massive volcanic cone. This World Heritage Site offers ample opportunity for mountain climbing and hiking. Visit here to enjoy the spectacular scenic views of some of Hawaii’s best natural beauty.
