Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner, kicking off the official start to the summer season. Now is the time to start thinking about your travel plans for this year. Travel company Hipmunk provided the latest stats on what to expect for summer 2018 travel. This intel comes in handy when planning the most cost friendly trip.

Plan ahead for your summer vacation to save money.
Flight prices are particularly high for the month of June, with average prices peaking at $316. According to Hipmunk, the most expensive day to fly this year is June 10. On the other hand, the cheapest day to snag a flight is August 24 at $224.
It pays to plan your summer travels early this year. If you book your trip during the week of April 23, you can save up to 16% on Memorial Day and 14% on Fourth of July travel. If you miss the deadline, you still have a chance to save. Booking your flights three weeks in advance saves an average of 14 percent on travel.
Fourth of July is set to be one of the top travel weeks of the season. Eight percent of summer bookings fall on the holiday this year. Unfortunately, three of the four top summer travel days are also included in this. The Friday before Fourth of July is the most expensive travel day, with $322 average flights. The busiest days include June 22 and the Friday and Saturday right before Fourth of July (June 29 and 30).
Keep your eye out for any airline deals and promotions during this time of year as well. Of course there is no better time to snag a sweet travel deal to your dream destination.
